Membership and Certification Requirements

iARELA membership and certification requirements differ.

Paths to Membership

iARELA membership is open to all individuals interested in the lease audit industry or a lease audit career. iARELA's goal is to enhance the value of the lease audit service and industry by providing resources and education to interested participants. Some of the ways iARELA plans to enhance the value of the lease audit industry include: (1) developing and promoting lease audit principles, (2) creating lease audit practice standards, (3) certifying qualified lease auditors and (4) advocating for buy-in from lease audit firms, tenants, landlords and property managers.

Any individual who has interest in the lease audit industry can become a member by following the membership process.

Paths to Certification

iARELA's Certified Lease Auditor program is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise in lease audit practice. Strong candidates for CLA certification are those with existing professional certifications in other related fields such as accounting, law and property management or administration.

To be awarded the Certified Lease Auditor professional designation, an applicant must:

(1) Have a bachelors (or higher) degree plus any other professional designation such as law, CPA, CIA, Real Estate certification, etc.

(2) Have minimum of two (2) years full-time, or five (5) years part-time, lease audit experience.

(3) Provide three (3) references that can attest to the individual's lease audit knowledge.

(4) Be willing to take a test.

College degree holders who do not meet qualification #1 above would require five (5) years of lease audit experience to apply for the Certified Lease Auditor designation.
